One day, when she was only five years old, her dad introduced her to a special sport: Taekwondo. It was a martial art full of discipline, kicks, and lots of concentration.
Even though it wasn’t always easy and sometimes there wasn’t much money, her family always supported her. “From that moment, I started saving to go to my training sessions,” María recalled.

María del Rosario fell in love with Taekwondo. She trained with all her might, learning to be fast, strong, and very smart in every movement.
It wasn’t always easy. There were days of tiredness and challenges, but her brave heart never gave up. She wanted to be the best and represent her beloved Mexico.
Little by little, her efforts paid off. Starting in 2003, she began winning medals in regional and international championships, showing that she had a special talent.
Her career took off in 2007, at age 20, when she won her first medal at the Taekwondo World Championship in Beijing, China. It was a gold medal!
Her dream grew bigger and bigger: she wanted to reach the Olympic Games, the most important stage for athletes all over the world.

And so, with much preparation and the support of her family and coaches, María del Rosario traveled to Beijing in 2008 for her first Olympic Games.
It was incredible! With every kick and every block, she showed her power. And she won the gold medal! All of Mexico celebrated with her. “A memory for our sport that fills us with pride,” she said.
But María del Rosario didn’t stop there. Four years later, in London 2012, she climbed the podium again, this time with a silver medal. She was the flag bearer for the Mexican delegation.

Her path was full of challenges, but her unbreakable spirit pushed her to keep going, always seeking to improve.
And in Rio 2016, she made history once more. She won the bronze medal, becoming the first Mexican woman with three Olympic medals. One of each color! In addition to her Olympic achievements, María del Rosario also shone in other World Championships, winning bronze in Muju 2017 and silver in Manchester 2019.
María del Rosario became a pioneer and an example for many girls and women in Mexico. She showed them that with effort and passion, anything is possible! For her incredible career, her name was inscribed in golden letters on the Wall of Honor of the Congress of the State of Sinaloa, a unique recognition in her lifetime!
