It has a neoclassical style architecture, built almost entirely of brick and mixture. The construction of the Municipal Palace, an architectural jewel is due to the Prefect Don Rafael J. Almada and the municipal President Don Francisco M. Torres.
From the acquisition of the land to the completion of the great work, the period covered from 1903 to 1907. At the same time as the construction of the Municipal Palace of El Fuerte, the Plaza de Armas or Garden, which was part of the project, was being embellished. As the interior space was very large, a basketball court was built and a high level was achieved, excelling at a national level.
This palace does not stand still as the center of municipal administration. No. Its multifaceted function has turned it into a true symbol and pride of the people of El Fuerte and Sinaloa. It was one of the key works that led to its designation as a magical town in July 2009.
The Municipal Palace of El Fuerte is the greatest beauty in the northwest of Mexico.
Ah! But there was also romanticism, there was a time when in its central courtyard the big dances took place during the November fair.
The Palace is not only a building to be admired, it is something more: it has its own life and is part of ours; by heart, it boasts a large mural painted by Manuel Ayala, a citizen of El Fuerte, where he summarizes the history of the municipality with brushstrokes and very illustrative scenes.
There, courtships, marriages, misunderstandings and disappointments were arranged; betrayals, escapes… were plotted…
And if it lacked something more lively, a bunch of swallows chose it for their permanent headquarters; they fulfill their migratory mission and return punctually to their favorite palace.
It was built of brick because it is the union of the elements of nature: earth, vegetable, water, fire, and the creative and transforming hand of man! The Municipal Palace of El Fuerte is a work worthy of our cultural heritage, the state, and our country.
